About products and suppliers

Dye shampoo is a specialist hair care product made to preserve and bring out the color of hair with coloring or other treatments. It is sometimes referred to as color-depositing or color-enhancing shampoo. In contrast to conventional shampoos, mainly meant to clean hair, color dye shampoos include pigments that enhance hair color with each wash. Those with colored hair who wish to maintain the vibrancy of their color in between salon visits are particularly fond of these shampoos.

What are the ingredients of a dye shampoo?

Be it a hair dye shampoo for women or a hair dye shampoo for men, it is typically composed of a blend of ingredients that combine to give the desired coloring effect. The manufacturers also add ingredients that help maintain the cleaning properties of a regular shampoo. To help spread the color and remove oil and debris, surfactants, such as sodium lauryl sulfate or its derivatives, are mixed with hair color. Besides that, the coloring agent is an essential element that varies depending on the desired shade. The degree to which common colorants, like oxidative and direct dyes, penetrate the hair shaft determines how much hair color is altered, permanently or temporarily.

Oxidative dyes can also be mixed with developers or activators to start the color-forming reactions. Conditioning agents, such as silicones or fatty alcohols, are also added to counteract the potential drying effects. Emollients, like artificial or natural oils, help to condition hair and enhance its gloss and smoothness. Preservatives, such as parabens or replacements, are added to products to increase their shelf life and prevent microorganisms from growing. Lastly, even some fragrances are added to a hair dye shampoo.

How to use a dye shampoo

Selecting a dye shampoo shade that matches the user's natural hair color is essential before use. Plenty of options are available, ranging from black dye shampoo and shampoo with red hair dye to purple dye shampoo and brown hair dye shampoo. After selecting the shade, wet the hair thoroughly. This guarantees better absorption and more uniform dispersion of the dye shampoo. For this initial step, it is advised to use a shampoo without sulfates because they can remove hair's natural oils and impact the dye's effectiveness. The user should then apply a generous amount of the dye shampoo to the damp hair. One thing to take care of here is to spread it evenly with the hands.

To get a uniform color, coat the entire hair—from the tips to the roots. Follow the instructions on the package and let the dye shampoo sit on the hair. Remember that the color will be brighter the longer the users leave the shampoo on. Hence, they need to be patient. However, keeping it longer than recommended might get unexpected effects like uneven coloring. Rinse the hair with warm water after the timer goes off. Rinse until the water runs clear or all excess dye has been eliminated.
