LED strip lights are convenient, compact, and flexible to fit into tight spaces. They don't need a lot of energy, nor do they emit harmful chemicals or gases. There are mainly 3 LED types on the market, namely SMD 2835, SMD 3528, and SMD 5050. Among these three types, 2835 SMD LED is a new choice.

What is 2835 SMD LED?

SMD is an acronym for Surface Mount Device. This cube-shaped device is a diode that emits light. SMDs can be easily attached to a printed circuit board, which is also a part of an LED strip. This helps make the light strip compact and light in weight. The four digits in the names of SMDs refer to their sizes, measured in millimeters. The first two digits refer to the width of a chip, and the second two refer to the height. In this way, a 2835 SMD LED chip is 3.5mm wide and 2.8mm tall. It's worth mentioning that 3528 and 2835 SMD LED strip lights have chips of the same size but in different orientations.

What is the difference between 5050, 3528, and 2835 SMD LED?

The bigger the chip is, the larger the diode it holds will be, and a larger diode can be brighter. Yet, it's not always the case. While a 5050 chip provides much brighter output than a 3528 chip does, a 2835 LED chip is more efficient than a 5050 chip. An SMD 2835 is not just a simple rotation of an SMD 3528. A 2835 chip uses a diode that makes much better use of the space available. The diode on a 3528 or 5050 chip will be circular, but on a 2835, it takes up almost the entire surface of the chip itself. Moreover, brighter chips will use more electricity, but again, it's not always true. Usually, the 5050 chip will draw more power than either the 3528 or 2835, but the LED 2835 will be brighter. Besides the size of the chip, there's also the density to consider. Density just means how many LED chips there are on a strip. Most 5050 strips are 30 or 60 LEDs per meter, but a 2835 SMD LED lamp can quite comfortably fit up to 120 LEDs per meter. Also, it's not all about brightness. The biggest benefit of a high-density 2835 SMD LED strip is the uniform lighting. The closer the chips are packed together, the more the light will fuse together as one beam of the continuous source.
