A fishing lure is a type of artificial fishing bait used to attract fish in tackle fishing. The use of lures can be contrasted with the use of live bait, but they do achieve the same purpose. It comes in different designs, sizes, and colors, which are aimed at catching a wide variety of fish species.

What are the types of fishing lures?

Jigs are the most commonly used type of fishing lure. They have a hook on one side and a weighted head on the other. This feature makes them heavy and can therefore make them sink easily when placed in water. They are suitable for catching bottom-feeding fish. The spinner bait has a hook on one side and connected metal blades that spin like a propeller on the other. Once placed in water, the blades cause a vibration while spinning. This results in a color reflection that resembles live bait. It is best suited for catching fish that are just beneath the water's surface. The chatter bait combines both the weighted bait and the connected spinner blades. This innovative design can be used to catch both bottom feeders and fish species that are just beneath the water's surface. Another common type is the whopper plopper. It has a propeller at its rear end and floats along the water's surface.

What are the advantages of using a fishing lure?

The benefits that accrue to the use of fish bait instead of live bait are as follows: Firstly, they are easily reusable as compared to live bait. Since the lures are made of plastic, they cannot be eaten by the fish and can therefore be used again and again. They are also very realistic and, therefore, effective. Examples are the swimbait and crankbait, which not only mimic the appearance but also the movement of the fish.
