Nylon remains a popular and cost-effective material for fishing lines, which is the reason why nylon fishing lines are on almost every fishing rod.

Types of nylon fishing lines

Fishing nylon lines are divided majorly into three types according to the methods used in the production. Nylon monofilament fishing lines, also known as mono lines, are made from a single fiber, as opposed to multifilament or braided nylon fishing lines constructed from multiple strands of fibers. Compared to lines made of other materials, nylon monofilament fishing lines cost less to produce and can be produced in a wide range of diameters that have different tensile strengths. They come in different colors, such as white, clear, green, blue, red, and fluorescent. Black nylon fishing lines are one of the most popular colors. Sizes are also optional. For example, 1mm fishing lines have been considered a proper choice for dealing with big fish. Braided nylon fishing lines, as mentioned before, are multi-fibered. They are thin but still durable and have long life spans. Because of their lower amount of stretch, braided trotlines have better sensitivity. And due to their small diameter, users can get more on the spool and cast for greater distances. Nylon tip-up lines are for ice fishing. They are not like braided, monofilament, or other lines that are used on reels but braided strings with a larger diameter. With tip-ups, users can bring in the fish by pulling in the line hand over hand, so the larger diameter line is easier to grab and pull in.

Benefits of nylon fishing lines

Because of their elasticity, Nylon fishing lines have good shock-absorbing qualities, making them less likely to be torn off by the fish. Nylon is an easy line material that has low memory, so Nylon coated wire fishing lines will soon forget about the coils they were restrained in on the spool. When added with a Nylon coated wire leader, the line can even be used to target predatory freshwater or saltwater fish with sharp teeth.
