About products and suppliers

PEX pipe is a popular type of plastic tubing used for large- and small-scale plumbing jobs. Made of high-density polyethylene, PEX fittings and piping are relatively new in the water supply and plumbing industry but are gaining in popularity thanks to their durability, flexibility, and efficacy. PEX tubing is also commonly used to produce floor heating tubing.

The Benefits and Advantages of PEX Plumbing, Tubing, and Fittings

PEX pipe fittings, tubing, and other products have three main benefits. First, they’re extremely durable which is essential when running a PEX water line. PEX lasts much longer than outdated materials like copper and CPVC which are susceptible to cracks and imperfections that may cause structure failure. Because PEX pipe is bendible, it also requires fewer plumbing joints. Installing PEX plumbing into smaller areas and corners of your home is easier thanks to its flexibility.

PEX pipes use PEX crimp, or a single piece of copper ring, to seal the connection between each fitting. This prevents leaks and breakage. Sharkbite fittings are another popular connector and much easier to use than copper rings which require welding. Instead, plumbing sharkbite fittings use a push-to-connect system that can be done manually. Another benefit of PEX piping is that it can freeze and defrost without breaking or becoming damaged. This is an especially important feature in areas that have inclement weather and drastic temperature changes. Unlike other materials like copper and CPVC, PEX pipe won’t crack or burst under pressure. It’s one of the most resilient plumbing materials currently in production.

What is PEX Pipe Made of?

PEX pipe and PEX fittings are made of cross-linked high density polyethylene (HDPE). This material is made using continuous melting and extruding processes until it’s formed into a tube configuration suitable for high-performing plumbing use. PEX pipe is used for both non-potable and potable plumbing applications.
